Joseph Eron Irenas is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He joined the court in 1992 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. Irenas is serving on senior status.

Early life and education

Born in Newark, New Jersey, Irenas graduated from Princeton University with his bachelor's degree in 1962 and later from Harvard Law School with his Juris Doctor degree in 1965.[1]

Professional career

Irenas was a private practice attorney in New Jersey from 1966 to 1992. Irenas has served as an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers University since 1985.[1]

Judicial career

Irenas was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey by President George Bush on November 14, 1991 to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089 which was approved by Congress. Irenas was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 8, 1992 and received commission on April 13, 1992. Irenas assumed senior status on July 1, 2002.[2]
