Josh R. Morriss, III is the Chief Justice of the Texas Sixth District Court of Appeals. Governor Perry appointed him Chief Justice in June of 2002 and he was elected on November 5th of that year[1]. He was re-elected in 2004[2] and his current term ends on December 31, 2016.[3]

Education

Justice Morriss earned his Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration degrees from Southern Methodist University in finance and management science. He then earned a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. [2]

Legal career

Justice Morriss practiced law privately in Texarkana, Texas before he was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 2002. His areas of focus were finance, business, banking, hospital administration, real estate, wills, and estates.[4]

2010 election

Morriss ran for re-election and defeated H.D. Bailey in the Republican primary. He was re-elected after running unopposed. [5]
