Juan Sanchez is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 2004 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.

He is one of twenty-two Article III judges on the court, and one of thirteen judges on the court who were nominated to it by George W. Bush.

Early life and education

Born in Puerto Rico and turned American citizen, Sanchez graduated from the City College of the City University of New York with his Bachelor's Degree in 1978 and later graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School with his juris doctorate degree in 1981.[1]

Professional career

Sanchez began his legal career as a staff attorney for Legal Aid of Chester County from 1981 to 1983 assisting low income and indigent clients. Also, Sanchez was a private practice licensed in the State of Pennsylvania from 1983 to 1997 and also served as a public defender in the Chester County Public Defender's Office from 1983 to 1997. In 1998, Sanchez became a Common Pleas Judge in the Court of Common Pleas of Chester County and served in the role until his appointment to the Federal Bench in 2004.

Judicial career

Eastern District of Pennsylvania

On the recommendation of U.S. Senators Rick Santorum and Arlen Specter Sanchez was nominated by President George W. Bush on November 25, 2003 to a seat vacated by Jay Waldman as Waldman died in judicial service[2]. Sanchez was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 23, 2004 on a unopposed 98-0-2 vote and received commission on June 24, 2004[3].
