Washington, D.C.: Kathleen M. O'Malley was confirmed by the U.S. Senate to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on December 22, 2010. A federal district court judge of Ohio's Northern District since 1994, O'Malley was nominated to the Federal Circuit by President Obama in March of 2010. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown commended her, saying, "For the last 16 years, Judge Kate O'Malley has served the Northern District of Ohio with distinction. Ohio's loss is our nation's gain."

O'Malley, 53, has worked as a law clerk, private practice lawyer, Chief Counsel to the Attorney General of Ohio, First Assistant Attorney General, and Chief of Staff for the Attorney General. She was appointed to the Northern District of Ohio on October 12, 1994. Prior to her appointment to the Federal Circuit, she was assigned to the Cuyahoga County corruption probe cases.[1][2]
