About the project
This project was created to help organize information about courts and judges by state.
The project has four main subprojects:
- Build one article for each of the 50 states that lists the courts (state and federal) that are located in that state.
- Build a template for each state that lists all the courts that are geographically located in that state.
- Improve these entry pages
- Build a project page for each state and an associated user participant badge.
State project templates
These basic templates are available to be used in this project:
- Template:WikiProject States. This template is placed on the discussion/talk page of any article within the scope of the "courts by state" project.
- Template:User WikiProject States. This template can be placed on user pages by those contributors who are participating in this project.
- Template:Courts by state
- Judgepedia:WikiProject Courts by State/Courts by state templates
- Also, for each state, there is a specific user badge for that state, so someone who is building articles in that state can place that specific state's user badge on his or her user page.

State user badges
If you're working on a particular state, it is to your advantage to place the user badge for that state on your user page. This gives you two advantages:
- It makes it very easy for you to get to the project page for that state, which means you can quickly re-familiarize where you were on any particular to-do list you were working on in that state.
- It makes it easy for other users to identify who else is working on articles about that state. This fosters your ability to collaborate with each other more readily.
"Courts by state" badge
If you're working on this project, try adding the {{User WikiProject States}} template to your user page. This will enable you to quickly access this project page right from your user page whenever you're signed in so you can see what is going on with the project. It will also enable other contributors to see that you're part of this project in case they're looking for someone to help them with the project.
