About the project

The goal of this Judgepedia:WikiProject is to make all information on the wiki accessible by county name in order to assist casual users in easily finding information about the judges and courts that directly affect their region. Another goal of this project is to compile information currently found across multiple pages into one location.

Building pages

An important aspect of this project is the need for uniformity in creating county pages. In combining several pages onto one, the information should be presented in a clear manner.

To see examples of the ideal page, visit: WP State by Counties example or Allen County, Ohio. Though the counties described in both pages vary substantially in terms of population and courts, the outline is the same.

Using DPLs (Dynamic Page Listings): To reduce the number of updates required when a judge transitions, DPLs have been incorporated into this project. Consequently, some information that appears on the county pages can only be updated on the original court pages displayed on the county's page. Also, the use of DPLs makes headings and categories on the original court pages an integral part of this project.

For example:

• Allen County, Ohio
  • The Allen County Court of Common Pleas, Ohio page has the heading "Judges" and category "Allen County Ohio, Common Pleas". Both of these calls for the DPL can be found in the code of the Allen County page.
  • The Allen County Municipal Court, Ohio page has the heading "Judges" and category "Allen County Ohio, Municipal Court". Again, these calls can be found within the DPL on the Allen County page.

Images

Each page will have accompanying images:

• On Wikimedia Commons, each county should have a diagram where the county is colored red in an outlined state, like can be found here.

• • Just type the name of the county and state in the search bar.

• • For a refresher in uploading images, visit: Help:Uploading images or Help:Images. You can find a list of copyright tags used on JP at Judgepedia:Image copyright tags.

• • Remember, all images uploaded to Judgepedia must have LCC: a Link to where the image was found, the appropriate Copyright tag, and a Category on the upload page.

• • The category for these images will be in the format of category:(State) county images, such as category:Alabama county images.

• Also included on the page should be the state flag. These already exist on the wiki, to find them, go to category:Flags.

Categories

For each page, the category will reflect the state in which the county is located.

For example, if you're working on a page for Travis County, Texas, the category will be category:Texas counties.

Also, categories must be added onto the court pages that feed the DPL on the county page. Those categories will be category:Allen County Ohio, Common Pleas, etc. See Allen County, Ohio or contact my talk page for clarification.

Federal jurisdictions

The last phase of this project is to add courts within federal jurisdictions to all county pages. That information should be added to the introduction of these pages.

The goal is to show which District Court and Court of Appeals are in each county.

Please see Cuyahoga County, Ohio for an example of how that information should be formatted.
