About the project
This project on Judgepedia is aimed at streamlining the process for writing pages about the many state level trial courts and judges in the United States.
Companion projects
Courts by state
The state trial courts encompass a number of levels of courts, which vary by state. The may be referred to as:
- District Courts
- Circuit Courts
- Superior Courts
- Vicinage, only in New Jersey
- Judicial Districts
- County Courts
- Parish Courts
- And more
A state may have more than one level of trial court, for example, Texas has both District Courts and County Courts. Trial courts might be divided by jurisdiction as well, such as Family Court, Juvenile Court or Probate Court.
Project stages
This project is broken down into stages to make it go more smoothly.
- Stage 1: what do I name the page? and stub pages
- Stage 2: external links
- Stage 3: filling out the stubs
Categories
Trial courts
Trail court pages should be placed in a category reflecting the state and court. For example: category:Texas district courts. That category should then be placed within the larger category category:Texas courts.
Judges
Trial court judges should be placed in a category that reflects the states and court they serve on. For example: category:Texas district court judges. That category should then be placed within the larger category category:Texas judges.
Templates
Each page (both judges and courts) within this project should have the {{wtrials}} (visible at the top of this page) template on its discussion page. The discussion page should also have a link to the applicable state project, which is shortened to the state abbreviation. Example, type: {{wi}} for Wisconsin.
