About the project

This project on Judgepedia is aimed at streamlining the process for writing pages about the many state level trial courts and judges in the United States.

• Stage 1: what do I name the page? and stub pages
• Stage 2 involves searching for external references to these state trial courts and judges
• Stage 3: filling out the stubs

External links

The external links section of the article is where you place links to notable outside sources that provide significant information about the court or judge and lead to the information needed to fill the page out more fully. These links generally include:

• A list of courts within a district.
• A list of judges serving the court.
• Press releases issued by the court.
• A judges' personal website.
• Is there a campaign website for the judge?
• A judges' Vote Smart profile.
• etc.

Researching courts

Finding adequate information on state level trial courts can be challenging. Often a basic internet search of the name will not provide you with the information you want. If that is the case, these suggestions may be helpful:

• Search for the court directly from the state or county judicial websites.
• Search for mentions of the court in news articles.
• Include several terms in your search, for example: "Rhode Island" "judicial districts" "first district".

Researching judges

Finding the information outlined below for an individual judge can be challenging. Often an internet search of their name will not provide you with the information you want. If that is the case, these suggestions may be helpful:

• Search for the judge directly from the intermediate court's website. Example.
• Look for the judge on Vote Smart (generally most helpful when searching for federal judges).
• Check Wikipedia.
• Try searching for the judge's name in "quotations" on your search engine.
