Judgeship moved to Lancaster County
Lincoln, Nebraska: Governor Dave Heineman recently signed into law a measure that will move one judge position out of a rural Nebraska district to help with a growing caseload in the Lincoln area. On March 14, 2012, Governor Heineman signed the measure into law, effectively shifting the judgeship.
The necessity to move a judgeship was echoed by the Nebraska Supreme Court, which pointed out that workload in the more rural 5th district is large enough to require approximately five judges, but it currently has six. Lancaster County, which makes up the 3rd district has six judges, but based upon caseloads would require more than eight to keep even with the number of cases.
