Judith McConnell is the Presiding Justice of the Fourth District, Division One of the California Courts of Appeal. She was appointed to this court by Governor Davis and took the oath of office on August 1, 2001. She was retained by voters in the November 5, 2002 election. On September 25, 2003, she was confirmed as the Presiding Justice. Normally California judges serve 12-year terms, but Justice McConnell was appointed mind-term; she was retained again in 2010[1][2][3]
Education
Judith McConnell earned her bachelor's degree in 1966 from the University of California, Berkeley. She went on to receive her law degree from Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law in 1969.[2][4]
Legal career
Judith McConnell began her legal career as an attorney for the California Department of Transportation in 1969. She entered private practice in 1976 as part of Reed, McConnell & Sullivan. In 1978, she was appointed to the San Diego Municipal Court and was elevated to the Superior Court in 1980. She served on this court until her appointment to the Court of Appeals in 2001.[3][2]
