Karen L. Strombom is the chief magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. She was appointed to this position on April 1, 2003.[1]
Education
Judge Strombom received her B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point in 1974. She then moved to the UW - Madison, where she earned her J.D. degree in 1978.[2]
Career
Judge Strombom began her career in 1978 practicing with the law firm of Burgess, Kennedy, Fitzer & Strombom in Tacoma, Washington. She worked in this position until 1990, when she was appointed to the Pierce County Superior Court. She became a federal magistrate judge in 2003 and currently serves as the chair of the Ninth Circuit Magistrate Judges Executive Board.[2]
