Kathleen Butz is a judge on the Third District of the California Courts of Appeal. She was appointed by then-Governor Davis and took office on October 15, 2003.[1] She was retained in 2010.[2]
Education
Kathleen Butz graduated from the University of California at Davis in 1972. She worked at this school in the School of Engineering and Shields Library for a few years. She then earned her law degree from King Hall School of Law (UC Davis) in 1981. [1]
Legal career
From 1982 to 1996, Kathleen Butz practiced private law in Nevada City, California. She was part of the law firms Berliner & Spiller and Spiller, McProud, Butz & Kraemer. She was elected to the Nevada County Superior Court in 1996 and served as the presiding judge from 2001 to 2002. She was also the presiding judge on the Family & Juvenile Court for Nevada County and a supervising judge on the Nevada County Civil Grand Jury. She was a faculty member for the B.E. Witkin Judicial College of California and the California Center for Judicial Education and Research.[1][3]
