Kathleen Cardone is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. She joined the court in 2003 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.

Early life and education

Born in Medina, New York, Cardone graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton, New York with her Bachelor's Degree in 1976. Cardone graduated from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas with a Juris Doctor Degree in 1979.[1]

Professional career

Cardone began her legal career as a Briefing Attorney for Fedderal District Judge Philip Schraub for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas in Houston from 1979 to 1980. In 1980, Cardone entered private practice in the State of Texas. In addition to her private practice work, Cardone was a Municipal Court Judge for the City of El Paso Municipal Court from 1983 to 1990. In 1990, Cardone became an Associate Judge for the Family Law Court of Texas from 1990 to 1995. From 1995 to 1996 and again from 1999 to 2001, Cardone served as District Judge for the 383rd Judicial District Court of Texas based in El Paso County. First from 1997 to 1999, and then again from 2001 to 2003, Cardone practiced as an attorney for the Texas Arbitration Mediation Services Board. From 2001 to 2003, Cardone served as a reserve Judge before her appointment to the Federal Bench. Cardone also served as a part-time Instructor for El Paso Community College from 1997 to 2003.[1]

Judicial career

Western District of Texas

On the recommendation of Texas U.S. Senators Kay Bailey-Hutchinson and John Cornyn, Cardone was nominated to the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas by President George W. Bush on May 1, 2003, to a new seat created by 116 Stat. 1758 which was approved by Congress. Cardone was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 28, 2003, on a unanimous Senate vote. Cardone received commission on July 29, 2003.[2] Cardone was succeeded in this position by Samuel Biery.
