Kathleen McCarthy is a Circuit Court judge for the 3rd Circuit Court in Michigan.[1]
Legal education and experience
Judge Kathleen McCarthy serves in the Family Division of the Wayne County Circuit Court.[2] Judge McCarthy obtained her law degree from the Detroit College of Law and her undergraduate from the University of Michigan. Prior to taking the bench, Judge McCarthy was a partner in her own firm, specializing in family law and personal injury litigation.[3]
Judge McCarthy has two children, Miranda and Zachary.[4]
Awards and associations
Judge McCarthy is the co-founder and organizer of the Girls Matter Conference, which is a non-profit organization which strives to promote self esteem and self-discipline among young women in the greater Metropolitan Area. She is currently the President of the Wayne County Family Bar Association, Advisory Board Member of the Arab American Anti-Discrimination Committee and teaches around the country for the Institute of Certified Divorce Financial Analysts.[5] Judge McCarthy is the past President of the Dearborn Bar Association, an active member of the Downriver Bar Association and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, Member of the Wayne County Council Against Family Violence, in addition to her active involvement at Divine Child Church in Dearborn. She also teaches for the Institute of Certified Divorce Financial Analysts. She is a 2006 recipient of the Judge of the Year Award presented by DADS of Michigan, and MOMS for DADS for her commitment towards ensuring that children have frequent access to both parents when appropriate.[6]
