Kathleen Thompson Lax

Kathleen Thompson Lax is a Federal Bankruptcy Court Judge for the United States bankruptcy court, Central District of California. She was appointed April 4, 1988 by the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and reappointed on April 4, 2002. Her current term would end on April 3, 1916, [1][2] but she has announced that she will be retiring from the court in January of 2011. [3]

Education

Judge Lax attended the University of Kansas in 1967 double majoring in philosophy and English and for her Bachelors Degree which she earned with distinction and honors. From 1967 to 1969 she studied at the University of Indiana as a graduate study in English literature. Later, in 1980 she attended the University of California at Los Angeles School of Law to earn her Juris Doctor. [1]

Legal career

From 1980 to 1982 Lax was a Law Clerk to Judge Calvin K. Ashland, United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California. In 1982 she began practicing as an associate Attorney, Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher until 1988 when she was appointed to the Central District of California.[1]

Memberships

Kathleen Lax is a member of the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forum and the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges.[1]
