Kathryn N. Smith is a Minnesota Eighth Judicial District judge for Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. She was appointed to this position on May 5, 1997 and was elected to full terms in 1998 and 2004. Her current term expires in January of 2017.[1]

Education

Smith holds a Medical Technologist (M.T.) degree from the University of Nebraska (1972), a B.S. degree from Iowa State University (1972), an M.S. degree from the University of Iowa (1976) and a J.D. degree from the William Mitchell College of Law in 1992.[1]

Career

Smith began her career working as a supervisor for the Fresno Community Hospital Microbiology and Immunology Laboratories and as an Science instructor at Willmar Community College. She entered the legal field in 1992, working as an attorney for the firm of Schmidt, Thompson, Johnson & Moody until her judicial appointment in 1997.[1]

2010 election

Smith is running for re-election. She defeated Glen M. Jacobsen in the general election, winning 60.3% of the vote. [2]
