Kenneth Karas is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He joined the court in 2004 after being nominated by President George W. Bush. Between 1992 and 2004, Karas served as the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.[1]
Early life and education
Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Karas graduated from Georgetown University with his Bachelor's Degree in 1986 and later from Columbia University School of Law with his Juris Doctor, J.D. degree in 1991.[1]
Professional career
Karas was a law clerk to federal judge Reena Raggi for the Eastern District of New York in 1992 before joining the U.S. Attorney's Office as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 1992 to 2004.[1]

Karas was nominated to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York by President George W. Bush on September 18, 2003 to a seat vacated by Allen Schwartz. Karas was confirmed by the Senate on June 3, 2004 on a Senate vote and received commission on June 13, 2004. [2]
