Kimberly J. Mueller is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California. She was appointed to this position on March 10, 2010, by President President Obama and was confirmed by the Senate the following December 16, 2010.[1] Previously, she served as a federal magistrate judge in this district from March 28, 2003.[2]

Mueller is the first woman to serve as a district judge for the Eastern District of California.[3]

Education

Mueller received a B.A. degree from Pomona College in 1981 and a J.D. degree from Stanford Law School in 1995.[2]

On March 10, 2010, Judge Mueller was nominated to serve on the federal bench of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California by President President Obama. Mueller was recommended by Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer. Mueller was nominated to fill the seat vacated by Judge Frank Damrell.[5] Obama said of the nomination, "I am honored to put forward [this] highly qualified candidate for the federal bench."[4]

Mueller's appointment was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 16, 2010.[1]

Mueller had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on April 16, 2010.[6] The committee reported to the Senate on May 6, 2010, approving the nomination.[1]
