Kimberly J. Mueller is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California. She was appointed to this position on March 10, 2010 by President Obama and was confirmed by the Senate the following December 16th.[1] Previously, she served as a federal magistrate judge in this district from March 28, 2003. [2]
Early life and education
Judge Mueller received a B.A. degree from Pomona College in 1981 and a J.D. degree from Stanford Law School in 1995. [2]
Professional career
Judge Mueller began her career in 1995 with the firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where she worked until 2000. She then worked as a private practice lawyer until she was appointed magistrate judge in 2003. [2] She has also taught as an adjunct faculty member at the Pacific McGeorge School of Law and at the U.C. Davis School of Law and served a five-year term on the Sacramento City Council. [3]
Judicial career
Eastern District of California
On March 10, 2010 Judge Mueller was nominated to serve on the federal bench of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California by President Obama. Mueller was recommended to the President by Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer. She is nominated to fill the seat vacated by Frank Damrell. [4] Obama said of the nomination, "I am honored to put forward [this] highly qualified candidate for the federal bench." [3]
Mueller's appointment was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 16, 2010.[1] She is the first woman to serve as a district judge for the Eastern District of California. [5]
Judiciary Committee hearing
Mueller had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on April 16, 2010. [6] The Committee reported to the Senate on May 6, 2010, approving the nomination.[1]
