Kitty K. Brennan is a judge for the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. She was appointed to that position by Democratic Governor Jim Doyle on August 21, 2008. [1] Her term expires on July 31, 2015.[2]
Education
Judge Brennan received her BS from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1972, and her JD from the same school in 1977. She is married and has four children. [2]
Career
Upon graduation of law school, Brennan served as the Assistant District Attorney for Milwaukee County until 1984. From 1984-1994 she was in private practice with the firm Murphy & Brennan in South Milwaukee, handling a general practice. [3] Judge Brennan was elected to be a Circuit Court Judge in Milwaukee County in 1994, again in 2000 and 2006. She was assigned to the civil division where she presided over large claims, civil and probate cases. In 2008, she was appointed by Governor Doyle to serve on the Court of Appeals. [2]
Awards
Judge of the Year
On February 28, 2006, Judge Brennan was the recipient of the State Bar of Wisconsin's 2005 Judge of the Year Award. The annual award "recognizes a jurist who has improved the judicial system during the past year by providing leadership in advancing the quality of justice, judicial education, or innovative programs".
"This award recognizes Judge Brennan's exceptional efforts in preserving the integrity of the judiciary," said Hon. Daniel M. Floeter, Bench and Bar Committee Chair. "She has exhibited leadership, courage and conviction to achieve change and promote the quality of justice in the Milwaukee court system and raise the public's awareness about the critical role our court system plays in society."[3]
Memberships and civic activities
Justice Brennan has been an active member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Bar Association, and the Association for Women Lawyers. She is a member of the Wisconsin and Milwaukee Trial Judges Associations. [3]
