Larry McKinney is a Federal District judge serving the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. He joined the court in 1987 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Judge McKinney recently assumed senior status on July 4, 2009.[1]
Early life and education
McKinney graduated from MacMurray College with his Bachelor's degree in 1966 and later graduated from Indiana Law with his Juris Doctor in 1969[2].
Professional career
McKinney began his legal career with the Indiana Attorney General's Office as Deputy state attorney general from 1970 to 1971 before becoming a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Indiana from 1971 to 1979 before becoming a Circuit Court judge in Johnson County from 1979 to 1987[2].
Judicial career
Southern District of Indiana
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Dick Lugar, McKinney was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on May 5, 1987, to a seat vacated by William Steckler as Steckler assumed senior status. McKinney was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 17, 1987, on a majority voice vote and received commission on July 20, 1987[3]. McKinney served as the chief judge of the Southern District of Indiana from 2001 to 2007[2].
