Lawrence L. Koontz, Jr. is a justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia. Justice Koontz was elected to the Supreme Court by the General Assembly in 1995. Justice Koontz will reach the mandatory age of retirement in 2011, the year after he turns 70, but his present term does not expire until August 15, 2019. [1]

Legal education

He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where he received a B.S. in Biology. He received his law degree from University of Richmond School of Law. [2]

Legal experience

Justice Koontz has served in the Roanoke Juvenile Court, the 23rd Judicial Circuit of Virginia, and in the Virginia Court of Appeals. [2]
