Lawrence Zatkoff is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. He joined the court in 1986 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan.[1]

Early life and education

A native of Detroit, Zatkoff is a graduate of Detroit Mercy with bachelor's and Juris Doctor degrees in 1962 and 1966.

Professional career

After graduating from law school, Zatkoff became an Assistant prosecuting attorney in Macomb County in 1966. From 1966 to 1978 Zatkoff was a private practice attorney in the Metro Detroit Area and also served as a member of the Faculty ror the Detroit College of Law from 1968 to 1969 and also a Associate government appeal agent as part of the Michigan Selective Service Administration Board from 1969 to 1972. From 1978 to 1986, Zatkoff, was elected a judge in Macomb County as a probate Court judge from 1978 to 1982 and as a circuit court judge from 1982 till 1986.[1]

Eastern District of Michigan

Zatkoff was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on January 21, 1986 to a seat vacated by Ralph Guy, Jr. Zatkoff was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 3, 1986 and received commission on March 4, 1986. Zatkoff served as chief judge pf the court from 1999-2004 before assuming senior status on June 16, 2004.[1] Zatkoff was succeeded in this position by Sean Cox.
