Early life and education
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Judge Stark went on and graduated from the University of Delaware in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in Economics and a minor in Women's Studies. He also holds a master's degree in European Medieval and Early Modern History from this school. He then earned a doctorate from Oxford University. He received his law degree from Yale University in 1996.[2]
Professional career
Stark began his legal career in Wilmington, Delaware, as a law clerk to Walter Stapleton of the Third Circuit. [3] He worked as an associate with the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom until 2002, when he was appointed Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware. He also worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Delaware.[2]
Judicial career
District of Delaware
On March 17, 2010 Leonard Stark was nominated for a federal seat on the United States District Court for the District of Delaware by President Obama.[4] Obama called him a "distinguished candidate" and said that he has "displayed an exceptional commitment to public service and... will be [a] thoughtful and esteemed addition to the federal bench". [3] He is nominated to fill the seat vacated by Kent Jordan. [5]
He was rated "Unanimously Well Qualified" by the American Bar Association. [6]
Judiciary Committee hearing
Stark had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on April 22, 2010. The Committee voted to forward his nomination to the full Senate on May 13, 2010. [6]
Stark was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 5, 2010. [6]
