Sixth Circuit

Contie was nominated to the Sixth Circuit by President Ronald Reagan on January 26, 1982, to a seat vacated by Anthony Celebrezze; he was confirmed by the Senate on March 4, 1982, and received commission on March 9, 1982. He assumed senior status on June 30, 1986. He served the Sixth Circuit until his death on May 11, 2001. [1]

Northern District of Ohio

Contie was nominated by President Richard Nixon on November 19, 1971, to a seat vacated by James Connell; he was confirmed by the Senate on December 1, 1971, and received commission on December 6, 1971. He served the Northern District of Ohio until he was elevated to the Sixth Circuit on March 23, 1982. [1] Contie was succeeded in this position by David Dowd.
