Lewis Render Morgan (1913-2001) was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Northern District of Georgia

Morgan was nominated by President John F. Kennedy on July 24, 1961, to a new seat created by 75 Stat. 80; he was confirmed by the Senate on August 9, 1961, and received his commission on August 10th. From 1965-1968, he served as the chief judge. He served the Northern District of Georgia until he was elevated to the Fifth Circuit on August 2, 1968.

Fifth Circuit

Contie was nominated to the Fifth Circuit by President Lyndon Johnson on July 17, 1968, to a seat vacated by Elbert Parr Tuttle; he was confirmed by the Senate on July 25, 1968, and received his commission that same day. He assumed senior status on September 1, 1978. He served the Fifth Circuit until he was reassigned to the Eleventh Circuit on October 1, 1981. He served the Eleventh Circuit until his death on November 15, 2001.
