July 5, 2011

Arkansas: Last week the Libertarian Party of Arkansas became the first third party to become certified to appear on the 2012 ballot in the state. This is the first time it will field candidates for races other than president. Party Chairman Roger Paxton hopes to present candidates for all legislative races next year, but says that a more attainable goal is to concentrate on one-quarter of those. In addition, he hopes to recruit candidates for local races, which include judicial races in 2012. [1]

In order to obtain access to the ballot, the Libertarian Party had to present at least 10,000 valid signatures to the Secretary of State. It is estimated that the party spent $40,000 and thousands of hours to reach that goal. [1]
