Lisa Margaret Smith is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. She was first appointed to this position in 1995. She served as Chief Magistrate Judge from 2006 to 2008.[1]
Education
Judge Smith received his B.A. degree in Political Science from Earlham College in 1977 and her J.D. degree from Duke University School of Law in 1980.[1]
Career
Judge Smith began her career in 1980 as a Kings County Assistant District Attorney. In 1985, she became an Assistant Attorney General in the Appeals and Opinions Division of the New York State Department of Law. The following year, she rejoined the Kings County District Attorney’s Office as a Supervising Senior Assistant District Attorney. In 1987, she became an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. She served in this position until her 1995 judicial appointment. She has also worked as an Adjunct Professor at Pace Law School since 2006.[1]
