Lynne Battaglia

Lynne A. Battaglia is an associate justice of the Maryland Court of Appeals, which is Maryland's highest court. She was appointed to this position by Parris Glendening, a Democrat and took office on January 26, 2001.[1] Her current term expires in 2012.[2]

Biography

Battaglia was born in Buffalo, New York. She graduated from American University with a B.A. degree in 1967 and an M.A. degree in 1968 in International Relations. She earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1974 and was admitted to the bar that same year. [1]

Legal career

Justice Battaglia began her career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Maryland. She worked in this position from 1978 to 1982. From 1984 to 1988, she was a senior trial attorney in the Office of Special Litigation of the U.S. Department of Justice. She then became the Chief of the Criminal Investigations Division of the Office of Attorney General. She worked as Chief of Staff for U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski from 1991 to 1993 and as a U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland from 1993 to 2001.[1]
