Lynne A. Battaglia is an associate justice of the Maryland Court of Appeals, which is Maryland's court of last resort. She was appointed to this position by Governor Parris Glendening and took office on January 26, 2001, and her current term expires in 2022.[1][2]
Education
Battaglia graduated from American University with a B.A. in 1967 and an M.A. in 1968 in International Relations. She earned her J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1974 and was admitted to the bar that same year.[1]
Career
Battaglia began her career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Maryland. She worked in this position from 1978 to 1982. From 1984 to 1988, she was a senior trial attorney in the Office of Special Litigation of the U.S. Department of Justice. She then became the Chief of the Criminal Investigations Division of the Office of Attorney General. She worked as Chief of Staff for U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski from 1991 to 1993 and as a U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland from 1993 to 2001. [1]
