M. Margaret McKeown is a federal judge with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco. She joined the court in 1998 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton.

McKeown is a member of the National Advisory Council of the American Judicature Society.[1]

Early life and education

Born in Casper, Wyoming, McKeown graduated from University of Wyoming with her bachelor's degree in 1972 and later from Georgetown University Law Center with her Juris Doctor, J.D. degree in 1975.[2]

Professional career

McKeown was a private practice attorney in Washington State from 1975 to 1998 and was honored as a White House fellow serving as Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Interior Cecil Andrus from 1980 to 1981.[2]

Judicial career

McKeown was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit by President Bill Clinton on January 7, 1997 to a seat vacated by Joseph Jerome Farris as Farris assumed senior status. McKeown was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 27, 1998 on a Senate vote and received commission on April 8, 1998.[3]
