Maria Rivera

Maria P. Rivera is a judge on the First District, Division Four of the California Courts of Appeal. She was appointed by then-Governor Davis and took her oath of office on January 25, 2002. Judge Rivera was retained by the voters on November 5, 2002 and January 8, 2007. [1] Her current term expires in 2019.
Biography
Rivera received her B.A. from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts in 1970, and her J.D. from the University of San Francisco Law School in 1974. She is married with two children and enjoys "cooking, fly-fishing, baseball and reading". [2]
Legal career
From 1974 - 1978, Rivera was an Associate with the firm Morrison & Foerster. In 1978 and 1979, she was Deputy District Attorney for the City and County of San Francisco, and in 1979 - 1981, she served as Assistant U.S. Attorney with the Department of Justice in San Francisco. Rivera was Partner with the firm McCutchen, Doyle, Brown & Enersen (formerly Van Voorhis & Skaggs) from 1981 - 1996.
Previous judicial experience includes a judgeship with the Contra Costa County Superior Court from January 1997 until her appointment to the Courts of Appeal in January 2002. [2]
Judge Rivera is also a member of the California Committee on Judicial Ethics Opinions. She is serving a four-year term expiring in 2013. [3][4]
