Mariana Pfaelzer is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She joined the court in 1978 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. Pfaelzer is serving on senior status.

Early Life and Education

Born in Los Angeles, California, Pfaelzer graduated from the University of California-Santa Barbara with her Bachelor's degree in 1949 and received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of California Los Angeles School of Law in 1957.[1]

Legal Career

Born in Los Angeles, California, Pfaelzer was a private practice attorney in the State of California from 1957 to 1978.[1]

Federal Judicial Career

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Alan Cranston, Pfaelzer was nominated to the United States District Court for the Central District of California by President Jimmy Carter on August 8, 1978 to a seat vacated by Francis Whelan. Pfaelzer was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 22, 1978 on a Senate vote and received commission on September 23, 1978.[1]
