Mark E. Recktenwald is an associate justice of the Hawaii Supreme Court. Prior to his 2009 appointment by Republican Governor Linda Lingle, he was the Chief Judge for the Hawaii Intermediate Court of Appeals. Recktenwald replaces Steven Levinson on the Supreme Court. His term ends on April 30, 2017.
Biography
Justice Recktenwald earned his A.B. degree from Harvard University, and his J.D. degree from the University of Chicago Law School. [1] [2]
Career
Justice Recktenwald began his legal career as a clerk to U.S. District Judge Harold Fong in 1986. In 1988, he joined the law firm Goodsill, Anderson, Quinn & Stifel, where he worked until 1991. He was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Hawaii from 1991 to 1997. He then worked as a partner of the firm Marr, Hipp, Jones & Pepper until 1999, when he returned to his job as Assistant U.S. Attorney. From 2003 to 2007, he served as Director of the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. He was then appointed to the Hawaii Intermediate Court of Appeals in 2007 by Governor Lingle, who subsequently also appointed him to the Supreme Court. [2]
