Mark Simons

Mark B. Simons is a judge on the First District of the California Courts of Appeal. He was appointed by then-Governor Davis and took his oath of office on January 29, 2001. [1]
Biography
Justice Simmons earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1967. He received his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1970. He is married with two children and enjoys "reading American history and working out at the gym". [2]
Legal career
Simmons served as law clerk to Alvin Rubin of the Eastern District of Louisiana post graduation. From 1971-1973, he was an Associate with the firm Cooley Godward. Until 1980, Simmons served as Deputy Public Defender in Contra Costa County.
Previous judicial experience includes as appointment to the Mt. Diablo Municipal Court in Contra Costa County. In 1995 he was elevated to the Contra Costa Superior Court, and in January of 2000 he received his appointment to the Court of Appeals. [2]
