Martha Geer

Martha A. Geer is a judge on the North Carolina Court of Appeals. She was elected to this position in November of 2002 and her current term ends in 2010.[1] [2]

Biography

Judge Geer was born on November 24, 1958 in Grinnell, Iowa. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1980 with a degree in Sociology and received her law degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1983.[2]

Legal career

Judge Geer began her legal career in 1983 as an associate with the law firm Paul, Weis, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in New York City. She moved to North Carolina in 1986 to join the firm Smith, Patterson, Follin, Curtis, James, Harkavy & Lawrence, where she later became a partner. She became a founding partner of the firm Patterson, Harkavy & Lawrence, L.L.P. in 1991. She worked in this capacity until her election to the Court of Appeals in 2002.[2]
