Martinez now a member of Colorado federal court

Colorado: Yesterday, William J. Martinez was sworn in as a judge on the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. He was nominated by President Obama in February 2010 and confirmed by the United States Senate in December. [1][2]
The swearing in of Martinez is a historic one. He is the first foreign-born citizen to serve on a federal court in the state. The judge came from Mexico City to Chicago as a child. He earned his citizenship after receiving his undergraduate degree. [2]
Upon joining the court yesterday, Martinez automatically had 225 civil cases assigned to him. It will be a couple of months before he delves into criminal cases. [2]
