Mary Beck Briscoe is the Chief Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. She joined the court in 1995 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton and assumed the position of chief judge on May 1, 2010. 
Early life and education
Born in Council Grove, Kansas, Briscoe graduated from the University of Kansas with her Bachelor's Degree in 1969 and later from University of Kansas Law School with her Juris Doctor degree in 1973. Briscoe received a Masters of Law in 1990 from the Virginia Law.
Briscoe was an attorney-examiner in the Financial Division in the U.S. Interstate Commerce Commission in Washington, D.C. Briscoe served as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Kansas from 1974 to 1984. In 1984, Briscoe was appointed Judge for the Kansas Court of Appeals and was the Chief Judge of the Appeals Court from 1990 to 1995. 
Briscoe was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit by President Bill Clinton on March 14, 1995 to a seat vacated by James Logan. Briscoe was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 25, 1995 on a majority vote and received commission on May 26, 1995.  She took over as chief judge of the court from Robert Henry effective May 1, 2010.
