Mary Lou Robinson is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. She joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter.[1]
Early life and education
A native of Kansas, Robinson graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with her Bachelor's Degree in 1948 and with her law degree in 1950.[1]
Professional career
After law school, Robinson was a Partner in the Amarillo based Law Firm Robinson & Robinson from 1950 to 1955 before beginning her judicial career. Robinson started her career as a County Court Judge in the Potter County from 1955 to 1958. After taking a three year hiatus, Robinson resumed her judicial career in 1961 as a District Court Judge for the 108th District Court of Texas based in Amarillo from 1961 to 1973. In 1973, Robinson became a Appeals Justice in the Texas Court of Civil Appeals for Texas Seventh Supreme Judicial District of from 1973 to 1979 serving two years as the Chief Justice from 1977 to 1979[2].
Judicial career
Northern District of Texas
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Lloyd Bentsen, Robinson was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on February 23, 1979 to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629 which was approved by congress. Robinson was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 24, 1979 on a Senate vote and received commission on April 26, 1979.[1]
