Mary Murphy is a judge on the Texas Fifth District Court of Appeals. She was elected to this position in November of 2008 and took office on January 1, 2009.[1][2] Her 6 year term will end on December 31, 2014.[3]
Education
Justice Murphy received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1979 and her law degree from the Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1983. [2][1]
Legal career
After law school Justice Murphy worked in private practice. From 1983 to 1986, she worked with the Denver firm Gorsuch Kirgis as a litigation associate. She was then a partner at Jenkens & Gilchrist until 1997. From 1998 to 2000 she worked in her own specialty firm, Rochelle, Hutchison & Murphy and presided over a number of high profile intellectual property law cases. Prior to joining the Court of Appeals, she was a judge for the 14th District Court, where she presided over cases involving intellectual property law. She won the Republican primary for this seat in 2000 and was elected to the bench in 2001.[2][1]
