Marywave Van Deren is a judge on the Washington Court of Appeals, Division II. She was appointed to this position by Gov. Locke in April of 2004 and was elected the following November. Her term ends in 2016.
Van Deren received a B.A. degree in Sociology and a Master's of Librarianship from the University of Washington. After working as a librarian for 7 years, she returned to the U.W., where she earned her J.D. degree in 1982. 
Judge Van Deren began her career as an attorney. She was a partner of the firm Gordon, Thomas and Honeywell and then worked for Morton & McGoldrick for 4 years before she became a judge. She judged on the Pierce County Superior Court for 7 1/2 years before she was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 2004.
