Michael Boudin (b. 1939) is a federal judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. He joined the court in 1992 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. Prior to his appointment, Boudin served on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.[1]

Early life and education

Born in New York, NY in 1939, Boudin graduated from Harvard University with his Bachelor's Degree in 1961 and later from Harvard Law School with his Law Degree in 1964.[1]

Professional career

Boudin was a law clerk for federal appeals judge Henry Friendly in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit from 1964 to 1965 and then clerked for former Associate Justice John Harlan in the Supreme Court of the United States from 1965 to 1966. Boudin served in private practice in Washington, D.C. from 1966 to 1987 before becoming Deputy Assistant U.S. Attorney General handling Antitrust cases from 1987 to 1990. Boudin was a visiting Professor at Harvard Law from 1982 to 1983 and also taught as a lecturer from 1983 to 1998.[1]

District of Columbia

Boudin was nominated to serve on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia by President George H.W. Bush on May 18, 1990, to a seat vacated by John Pratt. By the unanimous consent of the Senate, Boudin was confirmed on August 3, 1990, and received commission on August 7, 1990.[2]

First Circuit Court of Appeals

Boudin was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit by President George H.W. Bush on March 20, 1992, to a seat vacated by Levin Hicks Campbell. Boudin was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 21, 1992 and received commission on May 26, 1992. [3]. Boudin served as the court's Chief Judge from 2001 to 2008.[1]
