Early life and education
Fitzgerald received a A.B. from Harvard University in 1981 and a juris doctorate degree from University of California, Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) in 1985.[1][2]

Judicial career
Central District of California
On July 20, 2011, Fitzgerald was nominated to the federal bench by President Barack Obama to the seat vacated by Howard Matz.[4] Of the appointment, Obama said, "I am honored to nominate Michael Walter Fitzgerald to the United States District Court. His impressive career stands as a testament to his formidable intellect and integrity. I am confident he will serve the people of California with distinction on the District Court bench."[1]
He was rated Unanimously Well Qualified by the American Bar Association. He had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary committee on October 4, 2011 and you can find his Committee Questionnaire Available Here and his Questions for the Record Available Here.[5]
On Thursday, March 15, Michael Fitzgerald was confirmed by the United States Senate to the United States District Court for the Central District of California with a vote of 91-6. [6]
