Michael A. Telesca is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of New York. He joined the court in 1982 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Between 1989 and 1995, Telesca served as Chief Judge. He assumed senior status in 1996. Prior to his Federal judicial appointment, Telesca served as a Surrogate Court Judge for Monroe County (New York) between 1973 and 1982[1].

Early life and education

Telesca graduated from Rochester with his Bachelor's degree in 1952 and later graduated from Buffalo Law with his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1955[1].

Professional career

Telesca began his career as a private practice attorney in the State of New York from 1957 to 1972[1].

Military service

Telesca also served as a U.S. Marine Corps First Lieutenant from 1955 to 1957[1].

Judicial career

Western District of New York

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Al D'Amato, Telesca was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on March 11, 1982 to a seat vacated by Harold Burke. Telesca was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 20, 1982, and received commission on April 21, 1982. Telesca served as the chief judge of the Western District of New York from 1989 to 1995 before later assuming senior status on May 3, 1996[1].

Surrogate Court judgeship

Telesca served as a Judge in the Monroe County Surrogate Court from 1973 to 1982[1].
