Michael J. Wilkins is Associate Chief Justice of the Utah Supreme Court. He was appointed in 2000 by Republican Governor Michael Leavitt after having previously served on the Utah Court of Appeals since August 1994.
Legal education
He received his law degree from the University of Utah College Of Law in 1977 and an advanced law degree (LL.M.) in 2001 from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Legal experience
From 1977 to 1994, Justice Wilkins was in private practice in Salt Lake City. He teaches at Brigham Young University and is past presiding judge of the Utah Court of Appeals.[1]
Awards and associations
Justice Wilkins has been a member of the Judicial Council, has been chairman of the Judicial Council's Policy and Planning Committee, the Legislative Liaison Committee, the Standing Committee on Technology, and the Supreme Court's Committee on Professionalism.[2]
