Michigan Constitution of 1835

The Michigan Constitution of 1835 was adopted two years before Michigan officially gained its statehood. That year, the state's Constitutional Convention was held at Michigan's Territorial Capitol--Detroit. The Convention lasted from May 11th to June 24th and the soon-to-be state's first Constitution was officially adopted on October 6th with 6,752 affirmative and 1,374 negative votes.[1]
