Michigan First Judicial District Court

Michigan's First District Court is seated in Monroe County, Michigan. Its mission statement reads as follows:

The 1st District Court will provide access and services to all Court Users in a Fair, Consistent and Timely Manner. ^[1]

The court "has exclusive jurisdiction of all civil litigation up to $25,000 and handles garnishments, eviction proceedings, land contract and mortgage foreclosures, and other proceedings." Regarding criminal cases, it handles all misdemeanors that do not call for more than a one-year punishment. It also handles criminal arraignment, bail, trial and sentencing, and conducts preliminary examinations in felony cases.
