The Missouri Project on Judgepedia

The current constitution of Missouri, the fourth constitution for the state, was adopted in 1945 and provides for three branches of government—the legislative, judicial and executive branches. Missouri has also been nicknamed the "Show Me" State due to its laissez-faire attitude to regulatory regimes-especially for alcohol and tobacco having some of the least strict rules in the US.

Missouri Plan

The state of Missouri is known for originating the Missouri Plan, a method of selecting judges via appointment rather than election. After a committee narrows the field of candidates to three, the Governor makes an appointment from that list. The judge appointed must stand for a retention election after some time in office, and will be removed if they fail to be re-elected.
