Monica Marquez is an associate justice on the seven member Colorado Supreme Court. She was first appointed to the court in the state's Commission-selection, political appointment method of judicial selection on September 8, 2010 by Governor Bill Ritter to replace retiring Judge Mary Mullarkey. Her current term expires in January of 2015.[1][2][3] Marquez's father Jose Marquez was the first Latino to serve on the Colorado Court of Appeals.[4]
Education
Marquez earned her undergraduate degree from Stanford University in 1991 and her Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 1997.[3]
Career
Following her admission to the bar Marquez served as a clerk for Judge Michael Ponsor of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts and Judge David Ebel of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. She then entered private practice at the firm Holme Roberts & Owen, LLP. Marquez then entered public service as an Assistant Solicitor General and Assistant Attorney General. In 2002 she was promoted to Deputy Attorney General for Colorado where she served until 2010. She was nominated to the Colorado Supreme Court in 2010, a position she still serves.[3]
