Nancy Allf (D), immediate past president of the State Bar of Nevada, ran for seat B on the Nevada Supreme Court. A primary to narrow the field to two candidates took place on August 12, Pickering and Schumacher will continue in the quest for the seat.[1],[2]

Contents

As of August 6, Allf's campaign has raised $489,387. Of this, $270,000 was a donation from Allf herself.[3],[4]

Judicial Philosophy

The Mercury News says that although shying away from identifying as an activist judge, Allf believes there are times when precedents must be overturned. Clues to her judicial leanings, the newspaper says, can be gleaned from the fact that her campaign mailer features endorsements from "prominent Nevada Democrats and from the powerful Culinary Workers Union, Local 226."[5]

Allf says that she is running for a position on the Nevada Supreme Court because, "We should expect impeccable ethics from our judiciary. We must stop reading in the newspaper about how another judge has dishonored our trust. Ethics reform in the judiciary begins at the Supreme Court. We must establish policies that restore the public’s confidence that judges will do their jobs with distinction."[6]
