Nancy Atlas is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. She joined the court in 1995 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton.

Early life and education

Born in New York City, New York, Atlas graduated from Tufts University with her Bachelor's degree in 1971 and received her Juris Doctor degree from New York University School of Law with in 1974. [1]

Legal career

Atlas was a law clerk for the Honorable Dudley Bonsal in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York from 1974 to 1976 before entering private practice in the State of New York until 1978. Atlas served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the U. S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of New York, from 1979 to 1982. Atlas resumed private practice in the State of Texas from 1982 to 1995.[1]

Federal judicial career

Atlas was nominated to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas by President Bill Clinton on April 4, 1995, to a seat vacated by James DeAnda. Atlas was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 30, 1995 on a Senate vote and received commission on June 30, 1995.[2]
