Early life and education
An Illinois native, Gorton graduated from Dartmouth College with his Bachelor's Degree in 1960 and graduated from Columbia Law School with his law degree in 1966.[1]
Military service
Gorton served in the US Navy on active duty from 1960 to 1962.[1]
Professioanl career
Gorton spent his entire pre-judicial legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Massachusetts from 1966 to 1992.[1]
Judicial career
District of Massachusetts
Gorton was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts by President George H.W. Bush on April 28, 1992 to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089 which was approved by Congress. Gorton was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 23, 1992 on a senate vote and received commission on September 24, 1992.[1]
